Das Flugzeug wurde über den Alpen minutenlange von mehreren deutschen Jagdflugzeugen angegriffen. Ein Triebwerk fiel aus, ein weiteres geriet in Brand. Die Flammen breiteten sich rasch aus, bis das ganze Heck in Vollbrand stand. Die Besatzung sprang über den Bergen ab. Das Flugzeug explodierte kurz darauf in der Luft.
