Das Flugzeug wurde, wie die ganze Squadron, von deutschen Jagdflugzeugen angegriffen und schwer getroffen. Brennend ging es in den Sturzflug über. Die Besatzung versuchte sich aus den Notausstiegslucken zu retten. Acht Crewmitglieder wurden durch die Explosion des Flugzeuges ins Freie geschleudert und überlebten. Die beiden Piloten kamen ums Leben.
