- Der Pilot befand sich auf einer Bomberbegleitmission, als er von deutschen Jagdflugzeugen angegriffen wurde. Er konnte eine Flügel-Zusatztank nicht abwerfen und dadurch nicht entkommen. Mit einem Looping versuchte er die Geschwindigkeit zu drosseln, um abspringen zu können. Der Er landete mit seinem Fallschirm sicher am Boden und ging in Kriegsgefangenschaft.
