- Die Besatzung war kurz zuvor aus unterschiedlichen Crews zusammengestellt worden. Über Wien öffnete sich der Bombenschacht nur kurz und schloss sich aufgrund eines technischen Fehlers sofort wieder, sodass die inzwischen ausgelösten Bomben den Schacht durchschlugen und diesen in Brand setzten. Nahezu die gesamte Besatzung konnte sich per Fallschirm aus der Maschine retten. Nur Magee blieb verschollen.
