- Die Maschine erhielt über Wien einen Flaktreffer, der die Steuerung der Ruder außer Gefecht setzte. Das Flugzeug, völlig außer Kontrolle des Piloten, sackte sofort aus der Formation ab und verlor an Höhe. Der Pilot fürchtete, dass die Maschine in einen spiralförmigen Sturzflug übergehen könnte und befahl zunächst Ballast abzuwerfen. Kurze Zeit sah es so aus, als ob das Flugzeug wieder unter Kontrolle zu bringen sei. Dennoch sprangen vier Besatzungsmitglieder ab, die restliche Crew kehrte mit der schwer beschädigten Maschine zurück.
