Die B-24L erhielt über Wien einen Flaktreffer in ein Triebwerk, das sofort in Flammen aufging. Die gesamte linke Tragfläche brach in der Folge ab. Die Maschine ging in einen langsamen Sturzflug über, der es drei Besatzungsmitgliedern ermöglichte, das Flugzeug zu verlassen.
