KommentarComments. 13192 B-24L 44-49641 764th Bomb Squadron 1945-03-26 Flak Straßhof Kindberg 47°20'N, 15°01'N St. Michael ob Leoben Das Flugzeug hatte Defekte an zwei Triebwerken, verursacht durch Flaksplitter, die bereits unmittelbar über dem Ziel auftraten. Bei Rückflug fiel das Flugzeug deswegen hinter die Formation zurück. Zwei US-Jäger gaben Begleitschutz, auch ein US-Bomber scherte aus und flog zurück. Sie versuchten, den Piloten zu warnen, dass er über der Obersteiermark in einen deutschen Flakgürtel einflog. Jedoch konnten sie keinen Funkkontakt mehr herstellen und drehten ab, bevor die Flak zu feuern begann. Kurz darauf schlugen mehrere Geschosse in das Flugzeug ein, dass sofort in den Sturzflug überging. Die Besatzung sprang ab. Während neun Crewmitglieder lebend zu Boden kamen, verfing sich der Fallschirm des Piloten am abstürzenden Flugzeug. Er überlebte nicht. Während dem Navigator kurzzeitig die Flucht gelang, wurde die übrige Besatzung nach Graz transportiert.
