- Deutsche Jagdflugzeuge attackierten das Flugzeug mehrere Male. Ein Triebwerk geriet in Brand, der obere Gefechtsturm wurde gänzlich zerschossen und das Radio- und Intercom-System zerstört. Der Pilot versucht den Notausstiegsalarm zu betätigen, jedoch wurde dieser von der übrigen Besatzung nicht mehr wahrgenommen. Während sich die Flammen auf die ganze Tragfläche ausdehnten, rollte das Flugzeug auf die Seite und ging in einen Sturzflug über. Nur drei Besatzungsmitglieder konnten sich retten, bevor das Flugzeug am Boden aufschlug.
