Das Flugzeug wurde von mehreren deutschen Jagdfliegern angegriffen und sackte sofort hinter die Formation. Der Pilot ließ die Bombentore öffnen, um der Besatzung die Möglichkeit zu geben, abzuspringen. Er selbst und der Co-Pilot konnten sich nicht mehr retten.
