Südlich des Zielgebietes wurde dem Flugzeug das Ruder durch einen Flaktreffer abgetrennt. In der Folge ging die Maschine in einen langsamen spiralförmigen Sturzflug über, wobei das dritte Triebwerk zu rauchen begann. Die Maschine schlug am Boden auf und explodierte. Die gesamte Besatzung konnte sich retten.
