- Das Flugzeug befand sich unmittelbar über dem Zielgebiet Wiener Neustadt, als es kurz nach dem "Bomb Away" von Flakgeschossen getroffen wurde. Eine schlug im Bereich der Flugzeugnase ein und tötete den Bombardier. Ein weiteres traf eine Tragfläche, beschädigte ein Triebwerk und verursachte einen Brand. Durch ein drittes Geschoss brach im vorderen Flugzeugbereich ein Feuer aus. Der Pilot (Hallenbeck) konnte das Flugzeug nicht mehr stabil halten und gab das Zeichen zum Notausstieg. Er selbst sprang als letzter und erlitt dabei schwere Verbrennungen. Die Überlebenden kamen im Zielgebiet zu Boden. Hendrix wurde von Zivilisten verprügelt. Grunberg "auf der Flucht" erschossen.
