This may compared to a king who had three friends without whose consent he did nothing. But on one occasion he desired to do something without their consent. Whereupon he evicted one from palace; the second he put in prison, affixing his seal on it [the prison door]. But as for the third, whom he loved exceedingly, he said, ‘I cannot do anything without his consent.’ (Freedman / Simon I 421-422)
