Unmittelbar nach dem Abwurf der Bombenlast und dem Schließen der Bombentore wurde das Flugzeug von Flak-Geschossen getroffen. Im Inneren brachen Feuer aus, die rasch um sich griffen und Teile der Besatzung töten. Nur vier Crewmitglieder konnten sich retten. Bevor das Flugzeug zu Boden trudelte, schlugen Flammen aus dem oberen Turm. Kurz darauf explodierte es in der Luft.
