What did the Holy One, blessed be He? He took the truth and threw it on the ground. Said the ministering angels before the Holy One, blessed be He: “Sovereign of the universe! Why do you despise your dignified truth / corps of the court guards? Shall the truth arise from the earth! This is what is written: Let truth spring up from the earth (Ps 85,12).

Gloss in BM: חותם אמת („seal of truth“). Yalq Ps 834 (939: 17): תכסיס אלתמסון emended to אלטיכסייא תכסיס (cf. AC). It is not clear whether the form אלטומסיון 〈ʾlṭwmsywn〉 or אלתמסון (אלטומסין) 〈ʾltmswn〉 (〈ʾlṭwmsyn〉) is a corruption of אלטיכסייה or an alternative reading (cf. MY ad loc.). AC I 90b: אלטיכסייא 〈ʾlṭyksyyʾ〉 |aleṭeyakhsiyya| Gr. ἀλήθεια τάξις. Jastrow I 68ab reads אלטכסיסין 〈ʾlṭksysyn〉, “chief of the court ceremonies”. Bacher (1896) 441 (note 3) suggests simply Gr. ἀλήθεια. For the reading of Yalq. see Krauss (1937) 25a: Gr. τάξις ἀλλαξίμον. Ibid. 425a emends to אלטובסיא 〈ʾlṭwbsyʾ〉 Gr. ἀλήθευσις (this is also the suggestion of Schlatter [1900] 50-51, cf. Sperber, Cards). תכסיס.
