And Jokshan begot Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim and Leumim” (Gen 25,3). Although we translate “merchants” [for Asshurim], “blacksmiths” [for Letushim] and “heads of peoples” [for Leʿumim], yet they were all heads of peoples. (cf. Freedman / Simon II 544)

And the sons of Jokshab Sheba, and Dedan”. R. Shimʿon ben Gamliʾel sais: Although we, the meturgemanin, translate “merchants” [for Asshurim], “blacksmiths” [for Letushim] and “heads of peoples” [for Leʾumim], yet they were all heady of peoples.

The readings אפרין 〈ʾpryn〉 and לופרין 〈lwpryn〉 are probably corruptions of the original אנפרין. Cf. GenR אנפרין לופרין.
