= Yalq 111 [34c: 15] (אסקלוסתיקא)
Cf. Krauss, II 87ab („Gesetzkundiger, Advokat“); AC I 196b-197a (אסקולסטיקא); Levy I 125ab („Schullehrer, bes. Lehrer der Beredsamkeit“, „Advokat“); Jastrow I 56a “advocate, pleader”. Sokoloff interprets the rabb. form as det. of *איסכולסטיקוס 〈ʾskwlsṭykws〉 |iskolasṭiqos| Gr. σχολαστικός “scholar, advocate, pleader”. אסכולסטיקה in the sense of “advocate” is found in later sources (CantR 7,9). For Pl. cf. CantR 7,9, ExR 43,4 (emend.). In yBer 4,2 [37: 2] used as pers. name: תנחום בר איסכולסטיקא. For Syr. ܐܣܟܘܠܣܛܝܩܐ 〈ʾskwlwsṭyqʾ〉 cf. Sokoloff, SL 73b.
