17,6 [I 157: 8]
And he closed up the place with flesh instead thereof (taḥtennah) (Gen 2,21). R. Ḥanina b. Yiṣḥaq said: He provided him with a fitting outlet (“naweh”) for his nether functions, that his modesty might not be outraged, like an animal. Rabin said: Yannai and R. Yannai differed thereon. One says: He provided him with a lock and a saddle cloth pressed over it, so that he should not suffer pain when he sits. The other said: He provided him with cushions. (Freedman / Simon I 137)
The reading אפיפודין is a corruption. The reading אפיפיון was suggested by Krauss and Jastrow (I 103b) as an emendation of אפיפודין in GenR 17,6 and parallels for contextual reasons.
