The form אדריינטיס 〈adryynṭys〉 〈adraynṭis〉 is derived from gen. sg. (cf. Levy I: 32-33; Krauss I: 70). Pl. is attested in V and Ox 1. Krauss LW II: 65 assumes Gr. *ἀνδριάντη (sg. f.). The standard form shall be אנדרטוס 〈ʾndrṭws〉 |andarṭos|, אנדרטה 〈ʾndrṭh〉 |andarṭah|, אנדרטא 〈ʾndrṭʾ〉 |andarṭaʾ| (cf. Krauss, LW II 65ab). Krauss suggests Gr. *ἀνδριάντη (fem.) as possible source, but see Lieberman, Greek 9, who assumes ἀνδριάντιν = ἀνδριάντιον (attested in Greek inscriptions). Arukh (6b) (cf. AC I 40a) and Jastrow I 81b (אנדרוניטין 〈ʾndrwnyṭyn〉, אנדרוניטיס 〈ʾndrwnytys〉) suggest (for GenR) Gr. ἀνδρωνῖτις “banqueting hall, royal reception hall” as possible etymology. Cf. Syr. ܐܢܕܪܝܢܛܐ 〈ʾndrynṭʾ〉 (Sokoloff, SL 59b), ܐܕܪܝܢܛܐ 〈ʾdrynṭʾ〉 (Sokoloff, SL 11b).
